BLUESHEETS WIN ROUND 7 IN PRESTATYN

By Zapcat Racing

Craig Davis & Rob Martin current Zapcat National Champions held off the challenge from Gloucestershire based BladeRun in Prestatyn, North Wales today for the Round 7 win.

This is the first time Zapcat Racing has been to Prestatyn Sands and there was eager anticipation from the large crowds that had gathered to watch the event.  Denbighshire County Council and Pontin’s are the joint sponsors and together they managed to bring the event into their peak season calendars with only a few weeks notice after an enforced date change.

Unfortunately the date change meant headaches for the on water safety team fighting a rapidly falling tide and a very shallow shelving beach, instead of the rising tides in September as originally planned.  Fortunately the very shallow water, sometimes as little as 18 inches in places is no problem for a Zapcat at speed and the resulting sharply twisting tight course caused quite a few competitors problems, in particular Hampshire and Suffolk based SeaVacation I and Team Suffolk who both managed to entertain the crowds by parking on the buoys in their heats!

Despite this after a disqualification of It’s AllGreek to Us in the Division two finals and a retirement by Gul Racing left first place open to SeaVacation I to pick up Gold meadls for the Round win along with promotion back up to Division one tomorrow. Welsh team Westgate Buildings also benefited and collected Silver medals to add to the Golds they won in Barry last year, our next tour stop. The promotion meant that the other Welsh Zapcat Nine Lives are in Division two for the first time this year and will be keen to get back to where they belong mixing it up with the top flight.

The weather looks better tomorrow and the crowds are expected back to find out who will win the Pontin’s Prestatyn Zapcat GP and enjoy the day’s racing in the process.

As a result of their efforts today Marin / Delta Jets have moved back to 3rd in the championship standings and into 4th for the Celtic Cup which includes all the rounds from the Scottish and Welsh venues this year and will be decided on Aberdeen Beach late in August.

If you are travelling to Prestatyn to watch tomorrow there will be action from 11am on Central Beach instead of Barkby Beach as advertised.
