MetaMarine Corse Yalta race report
MetaMarine Corse take bronze and silver in Yalta and take second in the UIM Grand Prix of the Sea World Championship standings.
Saturday 8 May
Early in the Sprint race, the italian MetaMarine-Foresti&Suardi team piloted by Marco Pennesi and Giampaolo Montavoci, built a comfortable lead of 28 seconds over fellow italian team SNAV-Kiton in the first stages of the race. At three quarters the MetaMarine Foresti&Suardi team ran into some small tecnical problems that forced the team to go easy on the throttles and limit their speeds to about 80 miles per hour. This meant that the team in the end came in third after the SNAV-Kiton team and Belgium´s 2B1 Furnibo Racing Team.
Sunday 9 May
During the night the technical crew of MetaMarine Corse solved the problems that were encountered during the sprint race on Saturday. Just before the start of sunday´s endurance race pilot Marco Pennesi discovered a small problem that still might prevent the team from starting at all. Being the last team to clear the first buoy, the team found a rythm that was 1 to 2 seconds faster than the competing teams. Due to the determination and concentration of the two pilots Marco Pennesi and Giampaolo Montavoci the rest of the race was testament to the great potential of the MetaMarine Corse Monohull. Only SNAV-Kiton succeeded to keep up a pace that was faster than MetaMarine Corse to take the win in Sunday’s Endurance race.
“This weekend the boat made in Marco Pennesi’s boat yard in San Benedetto, demonstrated to be a strong and competitive package, securing a very important second place in the overall World Championship standings here in Yalta, Ukrain” Montavoci said. “I would like to thank all MetaMarine Corse engineers who worked so hard on reparing and preparing during the night.” Apart from the fine performance of the boat, Pennesi also had some good words to spare for his team mate: “We would also like to thank Giampaolo Montavoci for his fine performance under pressure” Pennesi had to add.
The San Benetto team are now looking forward to the next race in Malta where they hope to further improve on their World Championship standings.
