MILAN MEETING TO DECIDE POWERBOAT P1 SEASON

Monday 12 April 2010

Over the past two weeks there has been considerable media interest following the meeting between Powerboat P1 Management and the championship race teams in London on 1 April 2010.

It was at this meeting that Powerboat P1 Management announced that they were in discussions with the sport’s governing body, the UIM, to assess the viability of the UIM, under its direct sanction, staging a series of offshore endurance races for a period of two years in order to enable a vital restructuring of the sport.

Much of what has been written in the international press, in particular one article which appeared on a German boating website, has been fuelled by rumour and speculation, rather than hard facts, and Powerboat P1 Management believes it is important to provide an up-to-date and accurate summary of the current situation. Prior to and since the meeting with the teams at the start of the month, Powerboat P1 has been in constant dialogue with the governing body to safeguard the interests of all the key stakeholders. A meeting will be taking place this week in Milan, Italy between Powerboat P1 Management and the UIM to secure a definitive solution and the outcome of these discussions will be released by the Powerboat P1 press office.

Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing for the launch of the 2010 P1 SuperStock Championship in Penzance, Cornwall, on 21-23 May.
