Mirell Victoria on the BladeRun and the Norwegian 3-B championship

We had a chance to hook up with the patron lady of the BladeRun, brand spanking new Norwegian 3-B champion and multi-talent Mirell Victoria. Although it is hard to get a question in with this fountain of energy, we were able to get some questions across and have the answers to them as well. First of all congratulations are in order as Mirell, together with Tobias Munthe-Kaas is the new Norwegian 3-B class champion.

Mirell had high hopes to enter the BladeRun as the new Norwegian 3-B champion when we spoke to her before and now that wish, which was combined with hard and dedicated work, has come true. So the BladeRun, running from the 22nd until the 25th of September along the Belgian and Dutch shorelines can look forward to welcoming one of the premier ladies of Norwegian powerboating. Mirell says:  “Participating as a champion is a very special feeling. I can’t even begin to tell you about the thrill of becoming a champion. It has been a fantastic season for Tobias and me. Most of the boats in our class are catamarans and with our boat being 1 of only 2 V bottoms it feels even better to win the championship.  Our top speed is almost 10 knots lower than that of the cats, but our average speed offshore is higher, so this is why we still managed to take the win. The bat boat has performed brilliantly all season.  I was also very happily surprised when they called my name to receive the trophy as Rookie of the year, and must admit I cried when we raced into the finishing line in our last race”.

The Norwegian 3-B class was a close championship until the very last meters. Before the penultimate race, team B-77 consisting of Tobias Muthe-Kaas and Mirell Victoria had a comfortable lead in the championship table. And while the team never had any mechanical failure until then, problems started to mount in this race weekend. The team had a broken gearbox, leaks in the boat and finally nearly lost an engine. This made that the last race started with three teams contending for championship victory. Despite having a heavy nosedive in the last race which let to fears the boat might not make it home, Sturdy B-77 came through and across the finish line in second place, securing the title for the team. Mirell has to ad: “I want to thank everybody so much. Words cannot describe the

feeling of becoming champions. I was actually crying on the last round crossing the finishing line. It was truly an amazing moment. But everybody did great, and also we should remember B40 who was leading the series before their accident. Congratulations to all participants”.

So where will all this take her in her boating career? “Let’s see where it goes. I think our boat is performing really great right now, but I m also considering  to enter the 3C competition with the 2.5 engines. Over time I would like to participate in P1 or SuperStock. But first l will just savor the moment and enjoy this”.

“I am really just looking forward to celebrate and attend the  Bladerun rally end of the month. I have never participated in the Bladerun rally itself but I have attended their parties and I can’t wait to get out onto the water and party afterwards with everybody that is participating.  I would love to see  Bladerun in Scandinavia, so I hope we can get some great videos and pictures to further promote Bladerun over here.  We have a great crowd of powerboat owners , and they will for sure be interested in attending Bladerun”.

“The BladeRun parties I also look forward to. They are glamorous and fun and I think boat drivers are the most relaxed, fun crowd to hang out with. The atmosphere is quite relaxed and it is my opinion the parties are as glamorous as anything the car racing world has to offer. I am also looking forward to meeting new people and have some great time on the sea”.

We could not agree more. We from PBP are looking forward to 4 days of fun on and off the water and celebrating with Mirell.
