SIZE DOES’NT MATTER ANYMORE

By Zapcat Racing
When faced with the introduction of a new hull into a one manufacturer class you cannot simply outlaw what has arguably been the best selling race boat over the last 10 years! That is the problem faced by Zapcat Racing over the last year, especially since demonstrating the new EVO’s capabilities in the huge surf of Fistral Beach in October.

Tackling the problem of new hull versus existing one over the last few months has been a real issue for the Zapcat race organisers who believe in doing so they may have also addressed an age old problem of the advantage of lighter weight teams in flatter conditions.

“Many racers would love to only race in big surf but for many reasons this is simply not possible in a season that runs from Sping to Autumn in the UK. We are proposing two Championships by pitching the lighter weight crews against each other and the same for the heavier crews and teams can choose the hull that suits them best” said Martin Jupp Race Event Director.

Zapcat Racing still remains true to it’s founding principles and it will be interesting to see which hull in time is favoured particularly in the more extreme and testing surf conditions or the technical and high speed flat water events in the series.

All race teams have been notified of these proposed changes along with some othe minor alterations to the race rules and these will be published over the next couple of weeks once agreed and ratified.

“Our Race Director is still considering many options and permutations and has asked for feedback on the proposed structure from both racers and officials and there are likely to be some further adjustments before the season starts in again in April, we know we have the support of many teams and funnily enough it is not just the big guys either!”
