Wednesday 07 April 2010
An historic first meeting of the four leading motorsport world governing bodies (UIM, FIA, FIM and FAI) took place on the 27th March at the Automobile Club de Monaco where common actions were discussed and an agreement made to jointly focus on:
- Optimal use of resources
- Reduction of pollution
- Reduction of noise
The meeting, chaired by the UIM President, was attended by senior officers of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) and Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).
“I’m really pleased that the UIM is continuing to be the engine of this important cooperation,” explained UIM President, Raffaele Chiulli. “Sharing knowledge and best practices with other international motor sport federations and international institutions is pivotal to enhance environmental standards and achievements. I’d like to thank the FIA, FIM and FAI for their efforts and positive attitude. Working together will provide mutual
value and benefits to our respective sports.”
During the meeting the UIM presented its Environmental Code prepared by the UIM Working Group Environment, represented at the meeting by S. Elgvin and R. Ballesio.
“Our Environmental Code will promote environmental sustainable practices,” continued Dr. Chiulli, “taking into account social, cultural and ecological responsibilities to meet our needs now and the needs of future generations”
The next joint operational meeting will be held in Arendal, Norway in conjunction with the UIM Class1 Norwegian Grand Prix over the weekend of 16-18 July.
