ZAPCAT RACING RETURNS TO BARRY – “WELSH TOUR” PART TWO
July 2009 Vale of Glamorgan Council pulled out all the stops, quite literally a couple of weeks before racing was to due to be held and as a last minute event it was seen as a great success, everyone agreed that it must come back to Barry the following year.
The Council despite budget restraints has worked tirelessly again to ensure Barry plays a major role in the Zapcat Racing calendar in the 10th Anniversary season. The ‘Barry Island Zapcat Grand Prix’ will be held again in August, this time on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th.
Barry also saw the largest number of entries of the 2009 season (as well as some of the best spills and crashes) and we expect to see just as many teams this year, as well as plenty more thrills and exceedingly close races!
2010 has seen Zapcat teams travel the length and breadth of the UK, so Barry will be for many almost a local venue and we can safely say that all the teams, officials, rescue crew, friends, families & supporters are looking forward to returning to the fantastic beach and very warm welcome from residents and visitors alike.
As always the championship is fiercely competitive, finely balanced yet maintains its friendly rivalries, in both divisions teams will be aiming to put on another great show with the Zapcat trademark of action packed close up racing.
“Whitmore Bay not only delivers some unpredictable conditions and challenges for the Zapcat teams, it also has a fantastic amphitheatre like viewing area for spectators from the sandy beach, promenade and the gardens that all adds to the drama and nowhere else in the UK do the teams have a covered dry pits to store their boats overnight!” said Martin Jupp -Event Director for ZCR
“It really will be a pleasure to return to Barry, this season has been tough on the teams and the distances they have travelled and I for one am looking forward to the racing, especially if it is as action packed, close and exciting as it was last year.”
Local supporters were thrilled last year when Charles & Ed in Westgate took the division two gold medals at the weekend and can Daren Ford and Sam Hunka in Speedy Hire who finished third overall in the Nationals last year keep Bluesheets I the National Champions from the top spot again and retain their Barry Island Zapcat Grand Prix title?
Viewing is free so join the teams on the beach on the 7th & 8th August from 11:00 onwards.
